The Hard Truth

THREE HISTORICAL DOWNFALLS AFFECTING
BLACK
MALES IN AMERICA

  1. Slavery and Its Lasting Legacy: August 1619 –  June 1865
Slavery caused profound harm across generations. We must confront that history honestly while refusing to let it become a lifelong excuse for what we choose to do today.
  2. The Devaluing of the Family Nucleus: 1960’s Man In The House Rule (Welfare)
The weakening of family bonds has deprived many boys of consistent guidance, responsibility, and support. Team BMW calls men to strengthen their households and be present for the next generation.
  3. The Crack Cocaine Epidemic: 1980’s
The crack epidemic devastated working people and neighborhoods. It fueled addiction, crime, and murder, while criminal justice responses contributed to the mass incarceration of Black males.

We cannot change these chapters of history. We can decide what we build from here.

Current Plan For Black Males

The current plan for success for many Black males is fundamentally misaligned with the realities they face. Too often, Black males are expected to compete without access to stable resources, consistent guidance, or systems designed to support long-term development. Historical disinvestment, persistent community instability, limited educational opportunity, and entrenched disciplinary pipelines have produced predictable outcomes.

As a result, many Black males are navigating environments that fail to reinforce their value or intentionally develop their potential. Without structured exposure to foundational skills, identity formation, and legitimate economic frameworks, their abilities remain underdeveloped—not because of a lack of capacity, but because the plan itself has failed to prepare and direct them.

Team BMW’s New Plan For Black Males

Based on primary data, Standing on Business Rite of Passage and its collaborative partners theorize that Team BMW Rite of Passage will effectively develop accountable men while  empowering traditionally underserved households.

Finally, the New Plan for black males is at an early age, introduce them to:

  • Self-Efficacy
  • Consequences
  • Ownership
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Servanthood
  • Agriculture
  • Transferable Skills
  •  Faith
  • Stronger Families
  • Vibrant Community
  • Safer Neighborhoods
  • Healthy Minds
  • Generations of Prosperity

How The Current Plan Works

The current plan and policies have been in existence for the past thirty-five years and have produced some of the highest incarceration rates and the lowest reading proficiency rates of black males. Below is how the current plan works:

Society introduces Black males to sports at an early age, and when sports fail to fulfill the dreams of wealth and fame and end the generations of hopelessness, it's either:

  • The Music Industry to the Hustle Game or The Hustle Game to the Music Industry.

  • Jail
  • Death
  • A hard life without true fulfillment and individual growth.
  • It is being labeled as a convicted felon, which causes the struggle to continue.
  • Due to the continued struggle, they go back to step two, and the process has a higher rate of starting all over again.
  • Broken families
  • Poverty-stricken communities
  • Crime infested  neighborhoods
  • Environmental trauma
  • Generations of hopelessness due to lack of access to education and resources
